The Nanolive team grows-up and consolidates: Meet the new members!

“Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence wins championships,” states Michael Jordan.

That Nanolive will win its championship is certain because of the great people who build Nanolive.

We have a tightly-knit and motivated team of brilliant people cooperating toward a common goal: deliver as soon as possible the world’s first and only tomographic holographic microscope: the 3D Cell Explorer.

Enabling disruptive discoveries by allowing direct observation of living cells as was never possible before: instantly, in 3D and stain-free!

Today I want to dedicate this blog post to introduce the three people who most recently joined our mission:

Álvaro Hernández Prieto – Head of embedded software and Electronics

“Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.”

He was born in Salamanca, the city of the oldest University in Spain, in 1984. In that beautiful city he did his BSc in Physics. After his Master’s of Science in the Complutense University of Madrid and four years working for the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation, he arrived at CERN, in Geneva, to work in the biggest particle accelerator. For three years he worked in the Engineering department between electronics and data acquisition programming. In January 2015 he arrived to Nanolive to direct the embedded software and the electronics of the Cell Explorer.

Bastien Dalla Piazza, PhD – Head of Scientific Software

When I was introduced to the Cell Explorer and to its accompanying software, Steve, I was immediately hooked into Nanolive’s pioneering adventure – realizing the first 3D refractive index microscope for living cells.

Born in 1981 in Bern, Switzerland, he spent his earlier years in the French-speaking part of the Bern canton known as “Jura Bernois”. After a brief detour in literature studies at University of Lausanne (UNIL), he began his physics studies at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) where he obtained his master’s degree and later his Physics PhD, having worked on exotic properties of some magnetic materials using massively parallel supercomputers. In 2015 he arrived at Nanolive to take care of the scientific software allowing the reconstruction of 3D cells from holographic data.

Ivan Eftimovski – Creative Director

“Simplicity is the secret of all true elegance”

Born in Ohrid, Macedoina, at 10 years old moved to Sierre, Switzerland. He studied and graduated at ECAV. After 9 years of experience in various agencies and sectors of visual communication and marketing he eventually found at Nanolive the perfect place to apply all his skills as our Creative Director. Being in charge of our brand identity and strategic communication he will invest all his experience in obtaining simplicity, clarity and esthetical correctness.

We are scientists working for scientists… But not just!
